Our Founder
Selange Giannetto founded Creative Purpose. with one thing in mind. A strong commitment to addressing the challenges faced by children and dedicated support for educators in under-served communities.
How It All Began
Selange’s journey began as she volunteered at food pantries, igniting her passion for helping others. She served as a nutritional education intern with the Head Start program at Dominican University. This was in her hometown of Chicago. During this time, she diligently worked towards earning her Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. This experience, she witnessed the resilience of children facing significant challenges, often lacking basic resources. From simple items like pencils to essential tools like laptops, these resources are vital for their success in school. Despite limited support, teachers strive tirelessly to bridge these gaps, inspiring hope and change in their students’ lives.
When she moved from Chicago to Tempe, Arizona, health was the main reason. After having a tough time finding a job, she started volunteering at food pantries and joined a sorority. As part of her involvement, she needed to raise money again. The purpose was to buy important things for kids who don’t have much. She got in touch with teachers to get their lists of what they need in the classroom. But these things were often more than what the teachers could spend. Plus, many students’ families can’t afford them either.
We know that kids have a better chance to succeed when they have what they need. And when teachers are supported, they can focus on what they do best–INSPIRING and EDUCATING the next generation.
Creative Purpose Tempe started as a small group. Selange used her own money to get the materials she needed. She did this to raise funds. She made everything from t-shirts and tote bags to key chains and books for kids. It’s more than just an organization. It embodies a deep-seated desire to help kids. Unfortunately, these kids are being left behind because of things beyond their control. We’re slowly growing, and more people are getting interested in what we’re doing. What began as one person has now grown to four. Selange calls herself and her friends “small but mighty,” and they’re all working together to make a lasting difference.
