Schools Out for Summer

Summer is officially here. You know what that means. The Maricopa County Library Summer Reading Program is back in full swing! Whether you’re nestled in Ahwatukee or living anywhere in the vibrant Phoenix Valley, there’s a library near you. It’s bursting with exciting programs for kids of all ages.

Join us every Sunday at the Ahwatukee Farmers Market. Creative Purpose Tempe gives away free books to children. We also give free books to all those with a passion for reading! It’s hard to believe we’ve been on this incredible journey since July 2024. This is possible thanks to the generous contributions from teachers across various school districts. Every week, we gain inspiration from our wonderful community. This includes students, teachers, parents, grandparents, and visitors. They share their ideas on book selections, t-shirt designs, and tote bags. Your feedback means the world to us!

To kick off our program, we launched a super fun nutrition game for kids ages 2-14 years of age. Our goal is to spark their curiosity about trying new foods. We also want to show parents that mealtime can be enjoyable, not a struggle. That’s why we’ve crafted “Kids World,” a delightful summer reading list celebrating food, nutrition, cultures, and cooking!

Every other week, we’ll distribute a quick and easy recipe featuring ingredients from the farmers market. These recipes are designed so the whole family can join in the culinary fun! We also encourage kids to chat with local vendors. They can learn about how vendors grow their fruits and vegetables. Kids can also find out how bakers create delicious treats. By Thanksgiving, participants in the “Kids World Cookbook” will have collected 12 unique recipes. They may even craft a delightful dish for the holiday table. Let’s make this summer one filled with discovery, creativity, and, above all, joy! Happy reading!
